Adventures In Stamping Sunday 30 March Challenge

Hi guys

Yesterday's challenge over on the Adventures in Stamping facebook page was to combine another technique such as water marble or seran wrap with stamping.

I did an ombre gradient on two of my nails as accents (which I actually stamped using a Bundle Monster plate) and then did a stamped design using black and white on my other fingers.

Here is how it turned out:

I hope you like this mani.  I filmed whilst creating it and a video tutorial will be uploaded soon on my YouTube channel so watch out for that over here. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel and give my videos a thumbs up, your support will always be appreciated.

LIFESCOUTS:: Pets badge

lifescouts life scouts real experiences adventures dog cat pet pets dogs cats animals owner badge alex day youtube

Those of you who know me will know this is an easy one for me, talking about my pets!

I have two very special pets / fur babies in my life, one dog one cat, they go by the name of Ellie and Finley.

Ellie - 8 weeks old

Ellie - 4 years old
Ellie
DOB - 2 June 2009 (4.5 years old)
Breed – Border Terrier cross Poodle
Fur colour – black
Favourite toy – ball
Best trick – “Bang” and she falls down on her back and plays dead

Ellie is my diamond girl.  We have had her since she was 8 weeks old and we chose to get her from a reputable breeder that was KC registered.  I know a lot of people will say you should rescue not buy a puppy, but for both of us, Ellie was our first dog so we wanted to start fresh as we didn’t really know what we were doing.  If we were to ever get another dog, now that I have had her and trained her for over 4.5 years I would certainly feel comfortable looking into rescuing a puppy next time round.

We had the pick of the litter with Ellie, there were two boys and five girls in the litter. We knew we wanted a girl straight away so that narrowed it down to 5 of the pups.  My husband had a curly haired pooch snuggling up to him and I ended up hugging Ellie (the only straight haired pup of the litter). We took these two inside the ladies house and played with them both a little bit more.  After a while, the curly one my husband had held wanted to get back to its brothers and sisters and had grown tired of us, whereas Ellie was still by us and wanting attention.  We like to think that Ellie chose us, rather than the other way round.

Since that day we have never looked back.  Ellie is a hugely important part of our family and we like to have a mini-break once a year where we take her on holiday with us.  We have always taken her training.  She started off going to puppy training, and we progressed through the classes with her and she used to do agility.  She has also been awarded The Kennel Club Good Citizens Award in both Bronze and Silver.  Unfortunately, in the last year or so we had to stop taking her as it was held on Sunday mornings and we had a lot of other commitments to keep.  I am certain that once our house renovation is complete I will start taking her back to training again as she really enjoyed it and liked socialising with the other dogs she was very familiar with.  Everyone always comments on how calm and how well behaved she is and I think that is 100% down to the training we have given her.

Finley - 1 year old

Finley
DOB – 3 June 2012 (1.5 years old)
Breed – Bengal cross
Fur colour – brown, tan and white
Favourite toy – cat tree / hairband!
Best trick – Spin, Sit and Paw

We got Finley when he was 12 weeks old.  Again, we did buy him as we wanted to get a Bengal and as you can imagine you do not get many Bengal kittens to be rehomed at Cats Protection!  His mum was there to view and she was a beautiful large Bengal.  We can only presume that his dad was a black and white moggie as one of Finley’s sisters was black and white without an ounce of Bengal in them whereas all the others had Bengal markings.  The guy with the kittens had let her out one night without intending her to get pregnant but hey presto, she did!

Some of you may remember my post on the DIY 7ft Cat Tree myself and my husband made for Finley a little while ago, if you didn’t see it you can find it here (LINK).  This has really helped him strengthen his claws and let off some steam, he still uses it all the time and it is genuinely the single best thing we have ever got him or in this case made him.  He also likes to sleep on the top platform throughout the day and evening as he really likes being up high to survey the land (this is a Bengal characteristic I am told).

Despite what some people think cats or maybe just Bengal’s in particular can be trained!  Lucky for us Finley is very food orientated and so we have been able to teach him spin, sit and paw before he gets his meals.  I am sure there is a lot more we could teach him, it just takes a bit longer for it to click and become habit but he knows those 3 commands now very well.

When we got Finley, we also got one of his sisters from the same litter as a present for my parents-in-law.  It was for their Ruby wedding anniversary and they called her Ruby to mark this.

We were actually going to get one for his parents and were not bargaining on coming away with one for ourselves too! I was quite worried that Ellie would not get on with a cat but in the end was hopeful that if the cat knew her from young it would get used to her.  We took Ellie with us and quickly took Finley out to the car to try him out with her, there was a bit of hissing but overall the reaction was quite good so we went for it.

The hissing remained for a while but he never went for her.  Nowadays their relationship is still very up and down.  Sometimes he wants to play with her and she acts scared, other times (normally when we have visitors) she wants to play with him and picks on him like she is the boss!  Sometimes he will try to lay with her and she will get up and move away from him, other times she will still and they will cosy up together.  All in all I think it is a love hate relationship!

So, yes, that is a (somewhat longer than I had hoped) run down of my family pets.  They make our home complete and we wouldn’t have it any other way.  They will always be our family and they will have a place in our home for their entire life and we shall do all that we can to make sure that they have the best life possible.  I strongly believe pets should be there to enhance your life, we chose to get them and they certainly enhance our life and bring us so much love and joy, they deserve to have that love and joy reciprocated back.

What pets do you have?  How did you come about getting them? I would love to read all your pet stories in the comments below so please be sure to write.

LIFESCOUTS:: Family badge

lifescouts life scouts alex day youtube youtuber real life stories and events family badge robin sparkles

Hey guys

Today's Lifescouts post is talking about my family!!  Sorry this wasn't posted on Wednesday as expected, I have had a lot on the last few days.

By some peoples standards I am from a fairly small tight-knit family largely due to the fact that my mum only has one sibling and my dad is an only child.  This has meant that there aren't many auntie's, uncles cousins etc that spread your family out far and wide.

I am fortunate enough that my parents are still happily together so I also do not have any half / step brothers & sisters to add to this equation either.

My close family consists of:

Mum
Dad
Sister (older)
Brother (younger)
Nan (my other grandparents have now passed away).

My married family adds to this by way of:

My Husband
His Mum
His Dad
His Nan's x2

I cannot do this post without also mentioning my fur babies! I am sure some people will disagree but for me, my pets are part of my family and I wouldn't want to be without them.  Pets are there to enhance our lives and mine certainly do, so to then consider them as not being part of the family just seems very alien to me.  I have one dog and one cat.

Fur Babies:

Dog - Ellie - 4.5 years old
Cat- Finley - 1.5 years old

I am very close to all my family and we always try to get together for birthday's and celebrations etc.  In fact, my birthday is coming up next so I shall definitely have to arrange something that will include everyone!

Sometimes I wish my family was bigger and I had cousins a similar age to me to go out with and have fun, but I am also very lucky to have the close family unit that I do.

I hope this has provided a tiny snippet of insight into my life and the network of people I have around me :0)

Are you from a large family or a small family? Would you like to have a large family one day?  I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

My Top 5 Favourite YouTubers TAG

youtube top 5 favourite youtubers beauty makeup nails hair TAG blog

 Hey sparkles

This blog post is a bit of a different one to what I usually do, then again...maybe it isn't...

Anywho.

I thought I would share with you guys my top 5 favourite YouTubers that I am really into at the moment.  I have quite an extensive subscription list on YouTube so believe me it was hard to cut it down to 5! Hopefully this will contain people you know and also people you don't, maybe help you find new people to subscribe to yourself.

Without further ado, here we go.

I must admit I am fairly new to Katie's channel, I have only been watching since Christmas but how I have fallen for their beautiful little family. Katie's channel has been going for a very long time and last year, amazingly, she found out she was pregnant and has always documented through her pregnancy regular weekly updates, labour story, information on products for pre-birth and baby since birth etc etc.  She now provides regular updates post-birth and also vlogs their day to day routines sometimes.  I don't know what else to say other than I just love watching her videos, something just clicks with me watching them! Katie shines through as a fantastically loving mum, as does Paul a great father.  Their daughter Ellie is beautiful and I just thoroughly enjoy watching and also find her videos often informative and interesting.  So all I can say is thank you Katie :0)

So, this channel you might all be a bit more familiar with.  This features predominantly makeup tutorials by the fabulous Lauren. They are often simple designs that people can easily recreate and she really explains how she is doing things and what products / brushes she is using.  I have similar blonde hair and blue eyes so find that all her tutorials work with my complexion really well.

This is my go to nail stamping tutorial channel.  I have been following this channel for a long time now, this is where I first learned of nail stamping myself! Not only does she upload nail stamping tutorials but also reviews all the latest nail stamping plates as and when they are released. I find a lot of her work really inspiring and influential and really cant say much more than that, just watch and subscribe too!

Again, you guys have probably heard of Louise over on Sprinkle of Glitter, if not, head over there right now.  Louise is friends with Zoella and Tanya Burr etc and I just absolutely love her channel.  Her sweet daughter Darcy features a lot on there too and oh my goodness she is adorable.  The channel deals with discussions, hauls, adventures etc.  I feel that Louise comes across as a genuinely warm and positive person and watching her videos often makes me feel more positive too.  Louise, will you be my friend?!

Okay okay, I know I'm cheating but I have got a joint fifth place.  I toiled with the decision and mulled it over for some time but really was splitting hairs so I'm sorry but I am putting them both.

Robin Moses = insane nail art most of which I could only dream of ever being able to re-create.  Some of Robin's designs are crazy arty and literally like they are being painted on a canvas, not a teeny tiny finger nail.  She is definitely a must have if you are in the nail art blogging world.

Luxy Hair = awesome hair style tutorials.  I have tried many a video including the very difficult 5 strand braid (one day I will get it!) and I just think beautiful tutorials are always uploaded and tips on hair care and just always enjoy their videos.

So, there you have it, my Top 5 / 6 favourite YouTubers.  Do you have favourite YouTubers? If so, who? Please share in the comments below, I would love to hear from you.

Please please all check out my YouTube channel and subscribe, your support would be hugely appreciated, thank you!

Hey my sparkles

Today I wanted to show you how I style my hair using my BaByliss Curling Wand which I absolutely LOVE.  PLUS it comes with a funkay Michael Jackson heat glove.

I have been on a mission of years to have "Carrie Bradshaw-esque" hair and if you want it too, you need a curling wand!

Few obvious tips, the bigger the wand barrel, the looser the waves.  The curling wand I use is thinner at one end to the other. Equally, the bigger sections of hair you take the less shape hold will occur.  I always use my curling wands on the highest heat setting so that the curls last until I next wash my hair (3/4 days) and just make sure you use a good heat protectant on your hair before hand.  I am currently using the L'Oreal Paris Elnett heat protectant spray.

May I take this opportunity to say please excuse my roots, I am having them done tonight!! Full head of highlights coming my way baby!  I have been rockin' the ombre hair do for a while but want my blonde locks back before my holiday.

Anywho, back to the curling wand in hand.  All in all I think this is a fabulous product and would definitely recommend it to anyone.  There are more expensive ones out there but for me, it is not necessary.  I have really THICK and LONG hair and yet this still copes with my hair effortlessly and really does hold. With the right heat protection spray, hairspray and heat then this works perfectly.

I wish I had the time to use this more often, if it didn't take so long for me to do then I probably would.  I take approximately 1 inch sections of hair at the time.

Do you use a curling wand? If so, what one?  I would love to hear from you.  If you would like to see a YouTube tutorial of how I style my hair then please also let me know.

I will end this on a light note with a photo of my best "Cousin It" impression!

LIFESCOUTS:: Musical Instruments - Flute Badge and Saxophone Badge

Here is my first Lifescouts story post: Musical Instruments.

This blog post will cover two Lifescout badges I have; flute and saxophone.

lifescouts life scouts boy scout alex day youtube blog vlog diary real life adventures and experiences badge badges flute

 FLUTE

I started learning to play the Flute when I was at primary school in year 4 I believe, so I was approximately 8 or 9 years old.  I used to play in the little orchestra there and school concerts and also used to have a lesson once a week.

This progressed on and I started having private tuition once a week at a music teachers house and when I was at senior school I continued with the school orchestra and concerts there too.

I did 3 grades on my flute I believe from memory, it wasn't that I couldn't have done more, I just lost the passion and drive to do them.  I must admit practicing became a chore, I didn't enjoy playing it like other people around me did.  If I am completely honest I got to around 15 years old and playing a musical instrument at school was not the "cool" done thing and this really put me off.  Once I left school at 16 I never looked back and didn't play my flute again, it still sits at my parents house in a cupboard somewhere.

lifescouts life scouts boy scout alex day youtube blog vlog diary real life adventures and experiences badge badges saxophone

SAXOPHONE

Now, having read what I just said you might be somewhat surprised by me now telling you that in year 8 / 9 of school when I was around 12 or 13 years old I decided (because my sister did) I wanted to learn a second instrument! (Yep, classic sibling rivalry, she got one I want one, the whole shebang). My parents always wanted to encourage us musically and bless them they got me the must beautiful saxophone for my birthday.  It wasn't just any old saxophone, it was this gorgeous gun metal grey with gold buttons, ahh just amazingly beautiful, I was over the moon.

saxophone badge lifescouts life scouts alex day youtube life experience robin sparkles

Suffice to say, I never made it to grades with this instrument, I could play it well enough and already being able to play a woodwind based instrument I picked it up very fast and could read the music.

My family were really musical based, my mum sang in groups, my dad was a wiz on a drum kit, my sister plated clarinet and oboe and my brother also dabbled in drumming. I went along for the ride but tired of it.  I have the attention span of a gnat to be fair and really do need to stick with things once I start them.

Out of the two instruments, I would like to pick up my saxophone one day and start learning it again for fun. I watch videos of Kenny G on YouTube and it just sounds beautiful to me - I am not claiming I was ever that good! I am not sure I could even read music now but people say it is like a bike!  It is still at my parents house and they have promised to not get rid of it.  Maybe I can pass it on to a son / daughter one day if they show a desire to learn it?!

Did you or do you play instruments? If so, what?

Lifescouts - My stories

lifescouts life scouts alex day youtube boy scout blog vlog diary real life experiences and adventures

Hey guys

Today I wanted to tell you about my latest discovery - Lifescouts.

This has been created by Alex Day who you can find over on YouTube and if you want to understand the premise behind this business then click here to watch the YouTube video where he explains it.

Basically, in a few words, you purchase badges to mark real life events that you have taken part in that you can then tag and tell people about.  All the badges are £1.50 each although you can buy sets of 5 for £6.00.  All badges can be purchased from the Lifescouts website .

I had a look through the website and all the badges that they sell and it got me thinking...man I could own quite a few of those badges, maybe there is stuff here to blog / vlog about, and maybe just maybe my life is actually quite interesting?!

So here it is, I am going to do a series of blogs and YouTube videos marking out which of the 100 Lifescout badges I would own and talking about each one and my experience.

I hope this will be something a bit different and interesting to learn about me and maybe even get you thinking about taking part in something similar yourself.  If you do want to share in this adventure together please let me know and maybe we can set a specific day each week to upload our blog posts and reference back to each other in our posts.

My first Lifescout badge blog post will be uploaded tomorrow (and every Wednesday thereafter until I have done them all) and i'll give you a clue, its music based!

Until next time my lil sparkles.

Sinful Colors Nail Polish Mini Haul

sinful colors nail polish polishes varnish varnishes snow me white pink fluorescent 24/7 folly red haul

Hey guys

Today I just want to tell you about my recent Sinful Colors mini haul I got.

I have seen the brand spoken about on various different nail blogs I read (in particular people nail stamping with Snow Me White) and only recently noticed that they are stocked in my local Boots for a bargainous £1.99 each BUT...wait for it...not only that but they were on buy 3 or 2. Well, it would have been rude not to eh?

I went for the following 3 Sinful Colors polishes:
  •  Folly
  • 24/7
  • Snow Me White
I am delighted to report they do not disappoint!! They are all gorgeous colours. Keep a look out over the next day or so for my new blog post and YouTube video using all 3 in a tutorial.  I use the Snow Me White to stamp and it stamps really well.  I shall definitely use this from now on and save a few bucks rather than purchasing the Konad Special White.

I LOVE 24/7, it is a fluorescent "hi-vis" pink and is perfecto for the summer.  I love bright polishes like this and shall definitely be on the look out for more.

Can any of you recommend a really good fluorescent orange out there?  Do you use Sinful Colors polishes? Do you stamp with Snow Me White? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
